Job Posting with CCDA
I recently explored the job listings on the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) website and came across this posting: NCEL Director of Worship & ELEE Church Liaison. The information about the position sounded compatible with my philosophy of church and worship. However, I’m sure various factors are not in my favor.
Leading Worship

Leading the congregation into Christ-centered and God-honoring worship on a weekly basis
I assume this means coordinating the singing of praise and worship songs, having periods of shouted praise, even times of silent adoration.
However, as much as I enjoy singing and praising and babbling in the Spirit, I no longer enjoy Jesus Loves Me songs in corporate services. I much prefer How Great Is Our God and Worthy is the Lamb.
I also hold to the Underground Network understanding of worship, that of offering oneself as a living sacrifice in surrender to King Jesus. I’d rather sing and shout with a home gathering than a larger congregation.
Teaching Music
Leading a student worship team and working with those students in deepening their skills with their instrument.
I love to sing and have been part of children, youth, and adult choirs my whole life. I enjoy singing praise songs with a Pandora worship radio station. I studied music in high school choir and later.
However, I would have to teach others as did Harold Hill in The Music Man. I played one instrument, the trombone, way back in middle school. Of course, Professor Hill turned out a hero.
Age Limitation?
I am past retirement age. I collect Socialist Security. I would not have many years to do this work. I would not have the youthful energy that may be required.
However, I remember my father retired as a Methodist minister in north-central Pennsylvania and moved his rather-younger wife and us pre-teen kids to Arizona. In his mid-sixties, he started over! And, I recently realized, he was in his seventies when I graduated from high school…and I have two younger brothers. There are many examples of older people who made their marks late in life.
Engaging the Congregation in Biblical Truth
Responsible for engaging the congregation in Biblical truth, using opportunities through music to stir the heart of the believer and draw the unbeliever towards Jesus Christ
I hope this blog and the messages I wish to speak my target audiences show my desired work. I want to bring people to better understanding of the Good News of the Kingdom of Jesus, God’s Anointed. I would promote not only the foundational truths – mother’s milk – of
- trust in and surrender to King Jesus
- power and tools of Holy Spirit
- believers’ rights to health, wealth, and prosperity.
I would also champion listening to and following the construction of the upper stories – solid food – of the Temple God is building in this country and among His people as taught by modern apostles, prophets, and teachers.
I would particularly advocate small home gatherings of believers, serving and promoting the Kingdom outside the church wall, and sending believers into the Seven Mountains of Society.
I also have rather unorthodox, irreligious, Bible-based beliefs about Scripture, the nature of the Kingdom, and the real work of God’s people – ecclesia instead of church.
Follower of God’s Anointed King
Professing follower of Christ who knows what it means to be renewed in God’s grace, and who demonstrates godliness in personal relationships in their family, the church and the community.
On the surface, I should be qualified for this. I certainly call myself a believer in and follower of the King. I like to believe I trust in His favor and plans for my life.
However, my past life and interactions, particularly with family, would signal otherwise. I have alienated my step- and natural kids and my ex-wife, if not others in my past. I have left churches and believer groups because they did not value what I shared above about building the upper stories of the Temple. They despised the solid food of mature believers.
Maybe? Or Maybe Not
So, am I qualified for this position of Director of Worship & ELEE Church Liaison? I like to think my internal characteristics – my beliefs, philosophies, and enjoyment of singing – would enable me to do this work. On the other hand, my unorthodox, irreligious beliefs and my musical and age limitations would be obstacles.
