Introduction
An over-all reading of the Bible shows that, geographically speaking, rain is a matter of vital importance to the land of Israel. It depended on seasonal rains for the crops to grow, the animals to drink, and the people to live in abundance. Isaiah and Ezekiel wrote of rivers in a dry land or the drying up of rivers. Droughts were national catastrophes. Deuteronomy 11 has promises of rain sent or withheld from Heaven. God’s gifts to His people are seen as showers of blessings to be enjoyed for faithful obedience.

Open Windows of Heaven
The snowglobe picture of waters above the dome/ raqia of the sky included the need for windows of Heaven to be opened so rain could fall. Malachi 3:10 records the promise of Yahweh to open the floodgates of Heaven when they generously give their tithes into the community storehouses.
Elijah declared the windows of Heaven closed because of Israel’s disloyalty toward Yahweh. For three years, drought dried up the land, bringing poverty and death. Only in Zarephath in the region of Sidon did Yahweh provide food for His prophet through a pagan widow.
Elijah’s challenge to the prophets and priests of Ba’al demonstrated the power of Yahweh over that false god. Only after the restoration of the evening sacrifice did his “prayer of a righteous man” reopen the windows of the raqia (1 Kings 18).
Years later, his servant, Elisha told three kings to dig ditches in a dry valley to hold water for their men and animals (2 Kings 3:16-17). After the water came, Yahweh brought victory over Israel’s enemies.
Genesis 11:1-9 records Humanity’s attempt to build a tower in Babylon to reach into the Heavens. They meant to pierce the raqia and bring down Eden’s blessings. However, they were disobeying the Creator’s command to spread throughout the Earth. And they were trying to obtain Heaven’s blessings without trusting in Him. Therefore, Yahweh confused the people’s languages/ tongues. They had to scatter into their various ethnos/ nations and come under the rule of the sons of God, His divine council (Deuteronomy 32:8-9).
God-Given Showers of Blessing
Acts 2 records the reuniting of the nations under God’s Kingdom and their ability to understand Spirit- inspired speech. Jesus had given His life on the Cross, returned to life, and ascended to sit at the Creator’s right hand as His Anointed King.
God was ready to “open the floodgates of Heaven” when people believed that Jesus is His Son and, now, the King of Heaven and Earth. That whole lifestyle of belief Bill johnson calls living under open heavens.
Jesus implied this was not a badge of special treatment. He said, “[The Father] causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45)
He also said the Kingdom of God/ Heaven is within reach (Matthew 4:17). The reality of the unseen dimension/ realm is near at hand to the material, scientific realities.
